Offered in primarily a 50mm slat width, with the exception of Lily White and Pigeon Grey that are also available in a 35mm wide slat our real wood venetian blinds are a great way to decorate your home. They are made using a non-endangered bass wood. This collection offers a sophisticated look with a wide selection of unique grains textures & finishes such as gloss and natural wood stains, offering a traditional & high quality feel for your home.

Real wood is also an excellent insulator, as well as being a more lightweight option to faux wood. This will help with the energy efficiency of your home, keeping it cool in the summer and warm & cosy in the winter months. The blinds being lightweight allows them to be easier to install & operate. This is particularly relevant when you have larger windows or plan to take them up and down regularly.

You also add co-ordinated decorative tape to your blind for a more luxurious finish. You can choose to have the tape colour co-ordinating, or contrasting. The tape used on these blinds is 2.5cm wide & is made from 100% cotton.

These blinds are supplied with brackets only suitable for top or face fixing. The blind is operated using control cords with the raise and lower on the right, and the tilt on the left. This is a fixed feature for this product.

Should I Choose Faux Wood or Real Wood?
Until around 2017 we sold hardly any faux wood blinds at all as they were new to the market and at that time were considered a lower grade of quality product. As the years have gone by the product has been developed and improved in both stature and performance and nowadays the majority of the venetian blinds we sell are made from faux wood.

Whether you should go for a faux wood or a real wood slat depends on a number of factors, some of them personal and some of them are practical considerations. Below we will run through the main things to consider before making a choice.

Construction:
Faux wood blinds are made from a composite PVC. This gives them a number of benefits over real wood in that the slats will be uniform in appearance, they are waterproof making them the obvious choice for bathrooms and they are inherently fire retardant making them a great choice for rental properties or commercial spaces.

Real wood blinds are made from a non-endangered bass wood. This, being a natural product means that they will have natural irregularities in colour and finish and may bend or warp over time if fitted in moist conditions. However wood is a fantastic insulator and will do a better job at keeping your home warmer in the winter than a faux wood blind.

Price:
In terms of performance both real woods and faux woods will stand the test of time with very little input from you. They will need regular cleaning with a feather duster or damp cloth and that’s about all.

A real wood blind is between 20-30% more expensive than a faux wood blind depending on what size your windows are as they are cheaper to manufacture whilst still providing similar performance which has been one of the main driving forces for the shift our consumers have made to ordering faux wood blinds more often than real wood blinds over the years.

Weight:
A faux wood blind is also around 20% heavier than a real wood blind. This typically isn’t an issue as most people leave their venetian blinds down most of the time and simply tilt the slats open and shut. However if you intend to raise and lower the blinds regularly and your windows are particularly large then you will have an easier time raising a real wood blind over a faux wood.

Cords or tapes:
We offer both faux wood blinds and real wood blind with coordinating tapes in each slat colour. These are 2.5cm wide cotton strips that are used in place of the ladder cords in the blinds construction. They give the blind a more luxurious finish and overall appeal making them a great choice.

As a guide, adding tapes to your blind will increase the price by around 15% compared with a blind made with cords.
